We had a local group "One Mind" whose members are Black and white put on a show at Netpunes last week. One of the members of this group, who is Black, was at the bar when the guy next to him, a white guy and a former employee of the bar started using the "N" word. He was asked politely not to use the word three times, but continued to do so. Of course, the brotha got upset, told the owner he needed to put this guy out. The owner refused, saying that he felt if he put him out he would get beat down and that he didn't personnaly hear it, so he wouldn't put him out anyway. Most of the people there felt if he wasn't going to anything about it, then he was condonning it, and felt the owner thought it was ok to use this word. Now we as Black people use the word and I don't even feel it's right, but when white people use it, it encites a rage inside of us that they wouldn't understand. The band left the club refusing to ever play there again and is asking other hip hop artists in the maritimes for their support by not booking at this venue as well. They have not received an apology and the owner is actually saying he did nothing wrong. Supporting racism is not wrong??? When you support the use of that word, especially coming from a white guy, you are supporting racism and therefore we will not support your club! Pass this along to any artists you know. Classified, Scratch Bastid, universal Soul, are a few of the srtists that have played this club. They should know this as well as any other artists who are asked to come to this venue in Saint John, New Brunswick.
