Topic: Church rules(manmade) or God's law?
Hey guys,am adventist but, sometimes I don't agree with the church rules at my local church in Zambia.I want to share with u some of the rules we have to go through so that am enlightened as to whether they are universal in all Adventist churches and whether they are written in the bible so feel free to share your thoughts and experiences.

Church leaders say it is a sin for females except those maybe below the age of 10 to wear trousers,at church, work or anywhere?

It is a sin to wear earings, necklases, bungles, paint nails or make up?

It is a sin to weave your hair or plait it using artificial wigs?

I strongly disagree to this as i feel as much as we all need to look decent and presentable, really God is more interested in our hearts than our outside.

Chanda I do understand what you are saying.
Many of God's law is to protect us from a lot of trouble especially as female. How we dress can cause men to come after us and harass us and even to the point of rape.
Yes, about the wearing of pants even if in America and the Caribbean islands we wear pants, if you read the writing of the Spirit of Prophecy it tells us in detail about the reasons of not wearing such article of cloting. one is that it reveals your shape or figure which only your husband should see. Now I say to you ask God to show you why and He will reveal it to you.

The wearing of jewerly.
Now we as Gods people are to represent Him in everything and how we live, dress, talk and eat. If you look at Rev 17:3-6 and it talks about a woman which means a church and in that verse it is the corrupt church and not God's church . Read especially verse 4 and notice how she is dress.
Now go to Rev 12:1 and read about that woman and see how she is dress. DO you notice the difference? Rev 12:1 represent God's church.

Isa 3: 18 -23

1 Timothy 2:9

1 Peter 3:3

God is interested in our hearts but where our heart is it will follow in outward action.

when we accept Jesus He accepts us as we are but He does not want us to stay the same as we came to him. We must grow e very day and as we learn more He is showing that we must put aside all the weights that so easily beset us and run the race that is set before us.

The laws that we have is not made up by the church but by God. He is the one who sets the standard for us to live but because we are still in the flesh we choose to be disobedient and follow the ways of the world and do things that displease GOd.

Also look at Ezekiel 28:13 - 15
This is talking about Lucifer, now that he is fallen he desires man adorn themselves with the same jewelry that he was covered with.

Hope that helps God bless

Oh I wanted to let you know that in all the Adventist churches we have these laws from God and it is not manmade. However, many people do not follow them and choose to do their own thing. But whoever is God's children they will obey His voice as he instructs them. Dont look at anyone and what they do because we are saved individually. Get to know Jesus for yourself and He will speak to you personally ok. GOd loves you and He wants the best for your life don't consider the laws as strict but as a guide from temptation and trouble ok.

Chapter 3

18-23 (1 Peter 3:1-5). Beauty of Soul a Standing Rebuke.--In the third chapter of Isaiah's prophecy mention is made of the prevailing pride of the "daughters of Zion," with "their tinkling ornaments, . . . the chains, and the bracelets, and the mufflers, the bonnets, . . . and the headbands, and the tablets, and the earrings, the rings, and nose jewels, the changeable suits of apparel, and the mantles, and the wimples, and the crisping pins, the glasses, and the fine linen, and the hoods, and the vails." Verses 18-23. How different this picture from that portrayed by the apostle Peter of the God-fearing woman, who, estimating at its real value the "outward adorning of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel," chooses rather to cultivate beauty of soul, "even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price." It was "after this manner in the old time" that "the holy women . . . who trusted in God, adorned themselves"; and their "chaste conversation coupled with fear" (1 Peter 3:1-5), as revealed in daily life, was ever a standing rebuke to their sisters who followed after folly (RH March 4, 1915). {4BC 1138.1}

Please examine yourself.
why do you "FEEL" so strongly? will wearing those things make you "FEEL" more godly?
OR will wearing those things, make you "feel" more sexy and accepted by the world?

will not having those things cause you to be rebellious and lose faith in Jesus?

please examine yourself and see whether you are following JESUS and in THE FAITH.

Chanda,

I agree with you. Sometimes our leaders mix cultural desirable norms for the SDA community with biblical jargon like calling those things a sin.

In one thing I agree with Larry... we always need to ask if any thought, action, or practice would take us closer to God or not. That should be our guiding principle.

However, whoever says that wearing female pants or wearing jewelry is a sin is misrepresenting the biblical principles.

As a cultural norm in some countries the SDA church advises women from abstaining from those practices. However, there are other countries where the SDA church members are allow to do it. So this has to be understood as a cultural norm more than as an SDA doctrine.

The principle behind these cultural practices has to do with the guiding principle of modesty and frugality and with the stewardship of Gods material blessings.

Shalom,

Your church in Zambia on what you have written about is not making manmade laws. That is what the Bible says.

At the the end of the day my brothers and sisters...man looks at the outward appearance but GOD is concerned about the heart...it is GOD that works in us to do HIS will and good pleasure(phil 2:13)...we have to let GOD be our guiding light and let the HOLY SPIRIT speak to us...if you are convicted, then follow throw with your convictions (romans 14)....if you are not...then by all means be modest...we get too caught up in picking at the leaves, and leaving the root of the matter(the heart) to die...let GOD do what HE has to do...the HOLY SPIRIT is the one that cleans us up and that should make us up...lolll if that makes sense..HALLEUJAH!!! Lets put on those clothing of righteousness ladies...
