I think the ancient Egyptian monuments were built because their God-Kings demanded it. The pharoahs were living gods to them and when they passed into the afterlife, the rituals demanded grand monuments, tombs and obelisks as big as they could imagine being able to build. The Pharoahs had their tombs built during their time of living, at great cost in human life and in taxes. Because they were Gods, the people gave gladly in the temples....At times, the majority of the people must have been completely devoted to building these great monuments. It is indeed an awesome and fascinating civilisation to study. Such obsession!!

The Pharoah's were supposed to be living gods. That is why they were "in charge", however, I believe that slave's built the pyramids. Havent you ever heard of Jewish Hollidays. Like when Moses told the Pharoah "Let my People Go", and I actually learned that when I was about 5, and watching rugrats. Sad, but true. I guess that really is something they teach in Judism though. I am not sure really how they managed to make such Large pyramids, being as how in the old days people were a lot shorter. and the blocks the pyramids are made up of are rather large.

They may have seemed primitive by their way of thinking, but underneath laid a knowledge that not even today scientists and culturists are able to decrypt. they had amazing knowledge in astronomy. They were brilliant!

In my opinion, the ancient Egyptians give hope to us all as to the heights of achievement which must be possible in us all. I believe they felt driven to an extremely high performance level by their beliefs in their living Gods, the Pharoahs. To us it seems incredible that they achieved superhuman feats of Science and Engineering. The ancient Egyptians give us hope of what we can all achieve now, if we choose to look at it that way. I do not believe that any race is particularly superior to another. I believe that we all have it in us as a community of souls to achieve something special....or terrible!

Perhaps they actually "volunteered" and werent forced into it? Maybe they knew that these structures (once built) would contain immense power over their afterlife experience and so they paticipated willingly knowing that a big "reward" lay ahead....not gold, nor food, but resurrection or a heavenly invite. I doubt that the masses would really have been stupid enough to believe that the pharoas were "gods" but perhaps they beleived that the "pyramid's power" was real and so wholeheartedly contributed to its building. I dont know....i could be wrong of course!

Hello,
Thinking, if I propose myself to build a monument what would I need? A task that would take probably more than a life time to accomplish… Ok, so I would need houses for people to live… housing must have near by a water supply, a physician, an apothecary, an architect, police and fire houses. Then, I had to feed this people with bazaar’s and granaries - food and beer supplies, so I would have to establish markets, new trade routs, and one or two harbours (also to receive the stones from the quarry’s by river). To go on, there’s the industry since I would need wood, clay, reed’s, linen, beer, limestone, plainstone…to supply the storage yards, mason’s, crafts and work camps… No one can work for good’s without entertainment or religion - Priest’s for temples, shrines, blessings, festivals and mortuaries; school’s four dancer’s, jugglers, and singers. I have not yet started my pyramid and I have already built all this infrastructures! I’ve I a city?! Would I need a courthouse, and a palace to collect taxes…? Probably I’m forgetting half of the necessities, but to me this is fascinating, I mean, having a city created only to serve a great construction with all of the different society “positions” working for this monument. Not only slavery force as we see in movies. What would people do during the floods? Do you think all this people were working to serve slave handwork only? A common worker could yearn is own after life by helping the king’s on his. There are some documentaries about all this issues and about the discoveries over the technology, (like the use of lens to put the stones right on the spot, etc) with the excavations around the site of the pyramids, in Giza. Personally I like very much to fallow Dr. Zahi Hawass work, he as an official site, and I’ve learned a lot true him and his work. Posted by ana
